ACTIVITY 6

1. A green building refers to a structure that makes use of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout the building's life-cycle.

2. Green  Building  features: Alternative energy use e.g : solar panels
Using recycled materials to build buildings.
                                              Dual flush toilet systems.
Green walls and roofs: provide optimum C02 neutralisation
Green tiles: thickness stores heat from minium underfloor heating usage.

Green Features of St Albans College:

This energy efficient heater is a Green Feature due to the fact that it optimizes electricity use which in turn helps the environment.

This building is a Green Building due to the fact that it is made of a non-scarce wood ,which means no pollutants(or very little) were made during the processing of its materials and no rare trees were destroyed for its materials.

This ventilation system is a Green Feature due to the fact that it requires no electricity to ventilate  hot air from a room.

This motion detecting light switch is a Green Feature due to the fact that it monitors the periods were  electrical lighting is actually needed.

Non-Green Features of St Albans College:

This bell is an example of a Non-Green Feature due to the fact that it creates a excessive amount of noise pollution which can damage the hearing senses of humans and animals. A possible way to counter this feature is to install enegry efficient lights that indicate the end of a period.

This window is a Non-Green Feature due to its minuscule size. It only allows a small amount of light into the room and thus results in the need of electrical lighting. A way to counter this feature is to install a larger window.

This heater is a Non-Green Feature due to the fact that it does not conserve electricity use. A way to counter this feature is to intall energy-efficient heaters.

This ventilation system( Aircon) is a Non-Green Feature due to the fact that it uses an immense amount of electricity. A way to counter this feature is to install a HVAC system that requires no electricity.

This gutter is a Non-Green Feature due tot the fact that it expels perfectly usefull rainwater to the sewage system. A way to counter this feature is to build a resevior for the water were it can later be used for irrigation.

This toilet is a Non-Green Feature due to the fact that it uses an immense amount of water to function. A way to counter this is by installing Dual-Flush toilet systems

Conclusion:

St Albans College posseses numerous Green-Building Features. Some are efficient some are not but they are still Green. It is still to be tested whether or not these Green Features impact St Albans College's resource comsumption significantly. St Albans College also posseses numerous Non-Green Features. These features consume unnecessary amounts of electricity and water and it is recommended that they be replaced with more environmentally friendly features.
